We caught up with Lewis, one of our Senior Business Development Executives
My role gives me responsibility for sourcing and pitching new business sales, along with building long-lasting relationships with SME and blue-chip partners. I’m also here to help the team with any problems they have, while assisting and filling in for the Sales Manager when he’s not available.
Massively! The sales team has more than doubled in the year I’ve been here and we’re not even the fastest growing department! There are new roles popping up all the time – it’s great.
I graduated from University in 2014 and I’ve been in sales ever since. I’ve sold PPI, insurance and advertising which was great experience, but there was always a disconnect between the team and the management – but that’s not the case here. I’ve been here for just over a year and there’s been so much growth and change already! It’s not just a sales job and I don’t feel like a number. I’ve gained new experience by going on client visits, bringing on SME’s and blue-chip companies and working on new company wide projects and initiatives. I’m now a Senior BDE and I’m still developing new ways to help the team achieve targets – which we keep smashing out the park.
I’d like to say winning a sales award or a big sales target, but it’s got to be beating the rest of the team at bowling!
It’s not a pressured environment like some places I’ve worked. There are big but realistic expectations and very good commission at the end of it. Not to mention the top banter around the office – even the management join in too. All very professional of course!
Whether you work in sales or not, everyone here speaks to new people (clients and their customers) every day and some of the characters you meet or speak to are very rare (in a good way!). I think everyone has an hilarious or heart-warming story to tell and it’s definitely different each day. Working in sales, the commission is also something to get excited about.
Just join us on a work do or two and you will find out!
Funny. Loud. Mad.
If you’re looking for a laugh, but are also serious about providing great service, enjoying your job, being part of a progressive, growing company and making great money in the process, then orca is a great fit. There’s loads of development opportunity to grow with the business if you have the determination to go for it. It’s not your routine sales job!
I’ve only been at orca for a year and the support from colleagues and management has been a big help in moving up to a senior role in the team. I’m always put into situations that will help me learn and develop, whether that’s with the team, as an individual or out meeting new prospective clients.
A mutual love of a strong cup of tea on a Monday morning. Everyone chips in to do a round and helps each other from there on. There are also regular events (and drinks) like bowling, meals out, cash prize bingo etc. so it’s really quick to get to know everyone and hopefully not forget them the following morning!
Working at other companies there’s always been lots of unnecessary pressure, even when you’re overachieving and very little room to develop or progress. The management here are always up for a laugh and have an open door policy to chat about anything that’s on your mind. They’re also really serious in providing opportunities for people whenever possible, which I’ve experienced myself first-hand.
